Why My Kitchen Smells Like a Bakery on Sundays

Some people meditate. Some people run. I make butter and sugar do the work for me.

There is a specific Sunday ritual that has nothing to do with any recipe on this site: melt the butter, toast it until it smells like hazelnuts, then let it cool while I plan the week's menu at the table. The kitchen fills with that warm, nutty smell and somehow every decision gets easier.

It is not productivity. It is atmosphere. But it has never once failed to make me feel like my life is together, even when it is not.

If you want a Sunday ritual of your own: pick one small thing — toast the butter, brew the good coffee, set the table for one — and do it slowly. The rest of the week can wait ten minutes.
